Let me tell you a secret: your brain does not give a single f*ck about your dreams.
It only cares about keeping you alive. And to your subconscious, “alive” equals “familiar.” Even if that familiar thing is toxic, stressful, or soul-sucking.
That’s why change feels so freaking hard. It’s not because you’re weak. It’s because your subconscious is wired to keep you safe, not happy.
I’ve lived through this more times than I can count. One example? When I first started preparing for the Costa Rica Retreat, my body and heart knew it was the right next step, but my brain? Oh, my brain was loud and mean. This is too much. No one will come. You’ll lose money. Who do you think you are to lead something this big? On and on it went.
That fear loop had nothing to do with the truth. It was my subconscious clinging to what was familiar … staying small, staying safe. But my body knew better, and I couldn’t shake the idea that I was destined to host this retreat. I repeated the new pattern until it became familiar. I celebrate every registration. I allow myself to feel the joy of possibility. And eventually, my brain stopped fighting me.
That’s how this works:
When I say “new pattern,” I mean the new thought, belief, or behavior you want to anchor in. Your brain has been running the same track for years—maybe decades—and it thinks that familiar track equals survival. The good news is, your brain can be rewired. Neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to create new pathways) is real. And you don’t have to understand the science to use it, you just have to practice.
Here’s how:
- Repeat the new pattern until it becomes familiar. If your old belief was “I always mess things up,” your new pattern might be reminding yourself, “I am capable and learning every day.” If your old behavior was saying yes to everything, your new pattern might be practicing a clear no.
- Anchor in strong emotion. Your subconscious speaks in feelings, not logic. Don’t just say the new belief—let yourself feel the relief, the pride, or the freedom that comes with it. Recogonize it. Speak it out loud.
- Celebrate every tiny shift. Each time you show up differently, notice it. Celebrate it. Prove to your subconscious that this new way of being is safe by being joyful about it.
The more you show your subconscious that change doesn’t kill you, the less resistance you’ll feel.
Here’s how I can help: Tools like Human Design, subliminal audios, and subconscious reprogramming sessions are designed to accelerate this process. Instead of white-knuckling your way through fear and resistance, you can literally teach your subconscious a new script, one that aligns with who you’re becoming.
That’s why a Subconscious Shift Session with me can be such a game-changer. Or why a subliminal audio created for your unique Human Design can help you rewire old beliefs without the constant uphill battle. These are shortcuts to building a new “familiar” that feels safe and expansive.
Reflection: Training Your Brain for Expansion
This is where The BRAVE Method comes in, specifically the Reframing and Resilience piece of the Three R’s.
Ask yourself:
- Where has my brain tried to talk me out of something good? Something my body knows is right for me?
- What would it look like to reframe that story as my subconscious simply trying to protect me?
- How can I build resilience by practicing this new pattern, even in tiny ways, until it feels safe?
Your embodied action step: Your embodied action step: Choose one goal or change you’re making right now, big or small. Envision yourself the moment after you have achieved this goal or change. Tap into what you’ll experience in these moments, how you’ll feel, what you’ll see, smell, and hear around you. Be in this space fully and completely. And then celebrate every single moment of progress you make. Anchor in the feeling of safety and possibility as you do it. Your subconscious will start to believe you.
So, tell me—when was the last time your brain tried to talk you out of something good? What are you going to do about it? Meanwhile, check out this video below!
