Words matter. They impact us physically, emotionally, and energetically. The language we use shapes not just how others experience us, but how we experience ourselves.
I was working with a client once who kept saying things like, “I’m grateful my plane didn’t crash,” or “I’m grateful my plants weren’t dead when I got home.”
I gently suggested she rephrase to:
“I’m grateful my plane landed safely.”
“I’m grateful my plants are alive and healthy.”
And then I asked her if she could hear and feel the difference. She could. Instantly. Can you?
That shift matters. Because every word we choose carries an energy, it either aligns us with what we want—or keeps us tethered to what we don’t.
Why Shrinking and Negating Don’t Serve You
So many of us dilute our desires. We say things like:
- “It’s just a little thing I want.”
- “I don’t really need much.”
- “I’ll be fine if it doesn’t happen.”
But here’s the truth: your desires are powerful. When you minimize them or frame them as what you don’t want, you send a mixed signal to your subconscious and the universe.
The law of attraction is simple: you attract what you put out there. If you keep voicing the negative, your system anchors to the negative, even if what you mean is the opposite.
Instead, focus on the actual outcome you want. Say it in the language of the experience you’re choosing to call in.
Language That Builds, Not Battles
This isn’t just personal—it’s collective.
I am for peace, harmony, and the wellbeing of others.
Of course that means I am against war, division, and all the terrible things happening in the world. But for me, I always want to focus on the end goal I desire, rather than the thing I don’t want to exist.
It’s not about pretending the hard stuff isn’t real, it’s about choosing not to anchor my energy to it. When you’re for something instead of against its opposite, you become a clearer, stronger force for change.
And leaders, this applies to you, too. Leadership is human work. The way you speak about yourself, your team, and your vision matters. Being “against burnout” feels different than being “for sustainable success.” Being “against exclusion” feels different than being “for belonging.” The body hears it. The subconscious hears it. Your community hears it.
How to Start Speaking in Alignment
Here are a few shifts you can play with right away:
- Flip the script. Catch yourself when you phrase something as what you don’t want. Then reframe into what you do want.
- Stop minimizing your desires. Instead of “It’s just a little thing I want,” try “This is something important to me.”
- Notice how it lands in your body. Do your words tighten your chest, or create space to breathe? Shrink you, or expand you?
- Lead with what you’re for. In conversations, writing, or leadership moments, focus on what you’re building, supporting, and calling in—not just what you’re resisting.
Want Some Help With This?
This kind of shift, small but incredibly powerful, is at the heart of the work I do.
- If you want to practice dreaming without barriers, start with my free Dreamscaping mini-course (15 minutes to expand what you allow yourself to imagine).
- If you notice old thought patterns tugging you back into minimization or negation, a Subconscious Shift Session will help you rewire them into empowered, aligned beliefs.
- For daily, gentle reinforcement, my Subliminal Audios are designed to support your subconscious in holding you for joy, abundance, peace, and self-trust.
So what now?
Being against something is easy, but it keeps you stuck in the very energy you want to move beyond.
The real power comes when you are for something: for peace, for joy, for love, for thriving. That’s where your words, your energy, and your leadership become magnetic.
So here’s my invitation: listen to your own language this week. Flip one statement from what you’re “not” into what you are. Notice how it feels. And then keep building from there. Meanwhile, check out this video below!
