The Path of Least Resistance Often Holds the Most Power

For a long time, I thought power came from pushing. Pushing back, proving myself, having the last word. If someone disrespected me or treated me like I was wrong for not agreeing with them, I felt like I had to fight until they finally saw my point. I wore myself out doing this—mentally, emotionally, and physically. It was exhausting.

Eventually, I realized that constantly resisting was draining the very energy I needed for the things that truly mattered. I had to start asking myself: Would a response here actually make anything better? Or is my peace better served by disengaging? That’s when it hit me: sometimes walking away is the most empowered action of all. Choosing not to fight every battle doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise. It makes you free.

Reframing the Path of Least Resistance

We’ve been conditioned to believe that ease equals laziness. But that’s just manipulation. It’s a hustle-bro, capitalist narrative designed to keep us grinding until we collapse. The truth is: the path of least resistance isn’t about giving up. It’s about knowing where to put your energy so you can actually thrive. When you stop wasting energy on things that don’t deserve your fight, you reclaim your power. You conserve your peace. You give yourself permission to focus on what matters most.

How Resistance Shows Up

For conscious leaders, resistance often hides in plain sight: sticking with something far longer than you know is healthy. Believing your power lies in always having the last word. Forcing yourself to “push through” even when your body is screaming for a different path. But here’s the reframe: power isn’t in fighting every battle. Power is in discernment.

Tools for Flow

This is where my favorite practices come in. Human Design shows you how you’re naturally wired to engage with the world (don’t know yours yet? You can pull your free chart here). The BRAVE Method offers a framework for taking radical responsibility for yourself—knowing when to step in, when to step back, and how to choose aligned action. Subconscious reprogramming through NLP, Hypnosis, or EFT helps you release the old patterns that keep you forcing, hustling, and resisting, so you can trust yourself to follow flow.

Forcing vs. Flow

When I’m in force, it feels like slogging through mud. My body is heavy, my focus is scattered, and even the simplest actions feel like a fight. When I’m in flow, even if it’s hard work, there’s a sense of clarity. My body might feel tired, but it doesn’t feel drained. There’s purpose and direction in it.

Reflection for You

Journal Prompt: Where in your life are you still fighting battles that don’t actually serve you? Ask yourself: Would a response here make things better, or would my peace be better served by disengaging?
Embodied Practice: Notice what “force” feels like in your body versus what “flow” feels like. The next time you catch yourself resisting, pause. Place your hand on your heart, take three slow breaths, and ask: What would bring me peace in this moment? Then act from that place.

This Thursday at 12pm CT on Live with Heather Vickery (on Substack, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok), I’m unpacking this even further: Why the path of least resistance doesn’t mean weakness—it means power. I’d love for you to join the conversation.
