Top Takeaways From This Episode:

  • Failure is just as valuable as success.
  • If your mind is unaligned, your body is, too.
  • It’s okay to make yourself vulnerable and ask for help. The results can be better than your wildest dreams.
  • Prioritizing your health is hard, unglamorous work, but it’ll help you in your life and in your business.

Show Notes:

Hardworking, overachiever

Mike Iamele’s world changed forever when he started vomiting blood. As he scrambled to get a diagnosis for his strange, terrifying illness, Mike’s symptoms worsened to the point where he needed help just getting through the day. Thankfully, his roommate stepped up to the plate. At first, Mike was just relieved to have someone there for him. Then, to his surprise, he started developing feelings for his roommate.

For a long time, Mike thought he was straight. But through the experience of being cared for by, now husband, Garrett, Mike realized he was capable of feeling romantic love towards men. He came out to friends and family through a blog post that just happened to go viral!

A solo adventure

The success of his story prompted Mike to start a solo entrepreneurial venture. He used a tremendous amount of time, effort, and money to develop a blogging course. Put plainly, the course wasn’t a success—In fact, it lost Mike money. But rather than retreat into shame, Mike decided to throw a Failure Celebration. He had worked hard, learned a lot and he decided his journey deserved to be celebrated. What Mike realized at his failure celebration was his natural ability to help brand people, events, and experiences. He started holding branding sessions with a handful of solo entrepreneurs. After each session clients said he helped them figure out their purpose in life, not just in their work. These days, Mike calls himself a sacred brander. He helps people find their purpose by mapping out what inspires them. He calls this “mapping your sensitivities.” He mapped his own sensitivities and the process helped him realize that the root of his illness was feeling unaligned. Now, he prioritizes daily routines that help him feel balanced. You can map your own sensitivities here.
